With the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) increasing crackdowns on unlicensed drivers, it's now more important than ever to get a valid driving license before hitting the road. In 2025, Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has significantly tightened enforcement. Whether you're driving a car, bike, or scooty, you must carry a valid license issued by the ITP.
Having a valid license helps you:
Avoid fines & legal issues
Gain driving confidence
Prove your driving competency
Apply for car insurance
Rent or purchase vehicles easily
There are several types of licenses issued by the Islamabad Traffic Police:
Learner’s Permit (LTV/Bike/Scooty) – Valid for 42 days
Permanent Driving License – After passing the test
Motorcycle License – For bike & scooty riders
LTV (Light Transport Vehicle) – For professional or commercial use
HTV (Heavy Transport Vehicle) – For buses, trucks, etc.
To apply for a learner or permanent license, you must:
Be at least 18 years old (for car/motorcycle)
Have a valid CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card)
Be physically and mentally fit to drive
Pass the theory and practical driving tests
You’ll need the following to apply:
Photocopy of CNIC
Two passport-sized photographs
Medical Certificate (for age 50+ or HTV applicants)
PKR 60 ticket (from Post Office or Traffic Police booth)
Follow these steps:
Visit the Islamabad Traffic Police e-License Portal and book your appointment.
Head to the Islamabad Traffic Police Head Office, F-8 Markaz, on your appointment day.
Provide your CNIC copy, photos, ticket, and form.
You’ll receive your learner’s permit valid for 42 days. You must train and apply for a driving test before it expires.
After 42 days (minimum), you can apply for the driving test. Here’s how it works:
A computer-based MCQ test to check knowledge of road signs, traffic rules, signals.
Tip: You must score at least 70% to qualify.
An on-road driving test with an officer. You’ll be asked to:
Start, move, and stop the car smoothly
Show reverse parking
Drive on an 8-curve or S-track
Use signals, side mirrors, gear shifting properly
Pro Tip: Practice makes perfect. Train well in advance with a professional driving school to avoid test failure.
